From August 5 to 7, 2010, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai met respectively with Vanuatu Prime Minister Nipake Edward Natapei, Tonga's Prime Minister Feleti Sevele, Samoan Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, Micronesian President Emanuel Mori, Prime Minister of the Cook Islands Jim Marurai, Niue Premier Toke Talagi, Minister for National Planning and District Development of Papua New Guinea Paul Tiensten and Secretary-General of the Pacific Islands Forum Tuiloma Neroni Slade on the sidelines of the 22nd Post-Forum Dialogue Meeting of the Pacific Islands Forum in Port Vila, capital of Vanuatu. Du Qiwen, China's special envoy to the China-Pacific Islands Forum Dialogue, and Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu Cheng Shuping accompanied Cui during the above activities. Cui spoke highly of the positive progress made in China's relations with Pacific island countries, emphasizing that China and these countries have become good friends and good partners with sincere cooperation. The development of bilateral ties has brought about tangible benefits to both peoples and strongly promoted regional peace, stability and development. Cui said that China will continue to develop friendly cooperative relations with Pacific island countries based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, offer assistance within its ability to these countries and do more practical things for economic and social development of island countries.
The foreign leaders thanked for China's disinterested assistance to Pacific island countries over the years and reaffirmed their adherence to the one-China policy. They said they are looking forward to further enhancing bilateral exchanges and expanding cooperation area in a bid to promote the development of relations between China and Pacific island countries. Cui also met respectively with heads of the delegations from the United States, the European Union, the UK and Japan, and gave interview to Xinhua News Agency and China Radio International. |
