International Community Continues to Extend Condolences to China over Deadly Mudslides in Zhouqu, Gansu

More foreign leaders and heads of regional organizations have recently sent letters and telegraphs to Chinese leaders, expressing sincere condolences to the Chinese government and people on the rain-triggered mudslides in Zhouqu County in China's northwestern Gansu Province.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani extended heartfelt confidences to the Chinese government, expressing belief that the courageous and persevering Chinese people will surely overcome this natural disaster.

Nepali President Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal conveyed their deep grief over the great loss of lives and properties in the calamity, and wished that the Chinese government would achieve all-around success in the rescue and recovery efforts.

On behalf of the Thai government and people, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva voiced wholehearted sympathies with the Chinese people, adding that his country is willing to offer support and help to China.

Extending to the Chinese people his deep grief and condolences, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon said he is confident the Chinese government will prevail over the catastrophe.

Chairman Yahya bin Mahfoud al-Manthri of the Omani State Council delivered to the Chinese people and families of the victims his sincere sympathies.

Burundi President Pierre Nkuruzinza delivered to China his sympathies and condolences for the great loss of lives and properties in the disaster, and expressed confidence that under the leadership of the Chinese government, it is certain that local residents will surmount the tragedy and rebuild their homes.

President Laurent Gbagbo of Cote d'Ivoire extended profound sympathies to the Chinese people and expressed deep condolences and sincere solicitude to the families of the victims.

President Ian Khama of Botswana also conveyed grief and condolences to the Chinese people, especially families of those victimized in the mudslides.

President Nicholas Joseph Orville Liverpool and Prime Minster Roosevelt Skerrit of the Commonwealth of Dominica offered sincere condolences to the Chinese side, expressing belief that the Chinese people will definitely triumph over the disaster and start rebuilding soon under the leadership of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government.

Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer of Antigua and Barbuda expressed confidence that China is certain to weather the difficulties and achieve a final victory in the rescue and relief efforts.

Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva, on behalf of the Portuguese people, extended profound condolences and sincere sympathy to the Chinese side.

Finnish President Tarja Halonen offered grief and condolences to the Chinese people and the families of the victims.

French Prime Minister Francois Fillon expressed profound condolences to the Chinese people.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton also extended condolences to the Chinese side.
