On August 16, 2010, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang met in the Foreign Ministry with Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs in the United States Department of State Arturo Valenzuela, who is here for the fourth China-U.S. consultation meeting on Latin American affairs.
Li said that the China-U.S. consultation on Latin American affairs is an important part of bilateral consultation mechanism for regional issues under the framework of China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue and it has played a positive role since its launch. It is conducive to building understanding, expanding consensus and promoting cooperation for both sides to maintain dialogue and communication on Latin American affairs on a regular basis. Valenzuela said China-Latin America cooperation helps promote economic and social development in Latin America and the United States is glad to see China play a positive role in promoting stability and prosperity of the region. The U.S. is also ready to maintain and enhance consultations with China on Latin American affairs and discuss the possibility of cooperation. On the same day, Director-General of the Department of Latin American Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China Yang Wanming and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Valenzuela held the fourth China-U.S. consultation meeting on Latin American affairs. |
