International Community Continues to Extend Condolences to China over Deadly Mudslides in Zhouqu, Gansu

More foreign leaders and heads of regional organizations have recently sent letters and telegraphs to Chinese leaders or through other forms to express sincere condolences to the Chinese government and people on the rain-triggered mudslides in Zhouqu County in China's northwestern Gansu Province. They hoped that the people in the disaster area would rebuild their homes as early as possible.

On behalf of the Cambodian people, Cambodia's King Norodom Sihamoni delivered his heartfelt condolences to the Chinese people and wished the reconstruction in the mudslides-stricken areas a success.

While offering their heartfelt condolences to the Communist Party of China (CPC), the Chinese government and people, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (PRP) and Lao President Choummaly Sayasone and Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh, on behalf of the Lao party, government and people, expressed confidence the people affected would return to a normal life as soon as possible.

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa sent wholehearted condolences to the Chinese government and people, voicing hope and belief the Chinese government and people would overcome difficulties and help the disaster-hit area return to normalcy as early as possible.

Japanese Emperor Akihito offered his deep sympathy to China, hoping the people affected would rebuild their homes as early as possible.

Tunisian President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali, on behalf of the Tunisian government and people, extended the most sincere condolences to the Chinese people.

On behalf of his government and people, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan voiced his deep sympathy and support to the Chinese government and people.

Raul Castro, Second Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, President of the Council of State and President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba, conveyed condolences to the CPC, the Chinese government and people.

The Colombian government extended sympathy and condolences to the Chinese government and people.

Belorussian President Alexander Lukashenko, on behalf of the Belorussian people, extended profound sympathy and condolences to the Chinese people.

Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri, on behalf of the Georgian government and people, delivered condolences to the Chinese side, expressing hope the disaster-hit area would return to normalcy soon.

Spain's King Juan Carlos, on behalf of the Spanish government and people, extended sincere condolences and profound sympathy to China.

Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands sent her profound regret and sincere condolences to the families of the victims of the natural disaster.

President of the Swiss Confederation & Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs Doris Leuthard expressed condolences to the Chinese government and people.

Croatian President Ivo Josipovic extended sincere condolences to the Chinese side on behalf of the Croatian people.

On behalf of his people, Icelandic President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson expressed heartfelt sympathy to the Chinese people.

Greek Prime Minister Giorgos Papandreou extended sincere condolences to the Chinese people.

Delivering his deep sympathy and condolences to the Chinese people, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said he believed the people affected could rebuild their homes soon.

European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, on behalf of the European Commission, expressed grief over the victims in the disaster and commended the Chinese government for its speedy and highly efficient rescue and relief operations, saying the European Commission would firmly support the Chinese government in its reconstruction.
