Wen Jiabao Meets with Japanese Delegates Attending the Third China-Japan High-level Economic Dialogue
2010-08-29

On August 29, 2010, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai with a Japanese delegation headed by Foreign Minister Okada Katsuya. The delegation is here for the third China-Japan high-level economic dialogue.

Trade and economic ties between China and Japan had endured the severe tests of the global financial crisis and shown a positive growth momentum, said Wen. China's imports from Japan and investment in the neighboring country were growing rapidly, Wen said. New growth areas may also emerge in the cyclic and green economy, energy-saving and environmental-friendly sectors, he noted. "China and Japan share common interests in promoting regional cooperation, in pushing for reform on global economic governance and in objecting to trade protectionism with their coordination and cooperation being closer," Wen said. These developments are not only of great significance to China and Japan, but also have positive influence on Asia and the world at large.

Wen said that since it was launched three years ago, the China-Japan high-level economic dialogue has played an important role in enhancing the macroeconomic policy coordination and pushing forward pragmatic cooperation. This meeting helped to further deepen mutual understanding and identify the direction for efforts. Wen urged both sides to seize the favorable opportunity of the sustained improvement of bilateral ties, continuously build up mutual trust, adhere to the road of mutual benefit and common development and join hands to open up new prospects for bilateral economic and trade cooperation, so as to contribute to deepening China-Japan strategic reciprocal relations.

Katsuya and other delegation members said Premier Wen’s successful visit to Japan in May pushed forward bilateral ties, adding more and more Japanese businesses have conducted cooperation with the Chinese side. These enterprises deem China not only as a production base, but even more an important market. Both sides are becoming a community of common destiny. The Japanese side pledged to promote dialogue and cooperation with China, which they said was conducive to the development and prosperity of the two countries, Asia and the world. The Japanese side hailed the success of the third China-Japan high-level economic dialogue, pledging to join hands with China to further advance economic and trade cooperation and strategic reciprocal relations to a new level.

Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan and other officials attended the meeting.
