21st Century Forum 2010 Conference Opens Hu Jintao Sends Message of Congratulation

On the morning of September 7, 2010, the 21st Century Forum 2010 conference hosted by the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opened in Beijing. Chinese President Hu Jintao sent a message of congratulation to the conference. Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and honorary president of the organizing committee of the conference, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.

In the congratulation message, Hu said that win-win cooperation is the common aspiration of all people in the world and the correct way for the international community to cope with challenges and promote peace and development. With the theme of "new circumstances, new visions and new challenges: exploring the path of win-win cooperation", the Forum discusses major concerns of the international community and has great significance to advocating new visions, meeting new challenges and realizing new development under new circumstances.

He pointed out that at present world multi-polarization and economic globalization develop deeply, the interdependence among countries gets closer and the trend of peace, development and cooperation of the times grows stronger. The Chinese people know deeply that the fate of contemporary China is closely linked with that of the world. China cannot development without the world and development of the world also needs China. China will hold high the banner of peace, development and cooperation, unswervingly follow the road of peaceful development and implement the win-win opening up strategy and adhere to developing friendly cooperation with all countries on the basis of the five principles of peaceful coexistence. The Chinese people is willing to join hands with people in the world to share development opportunities, address challenges and advance the building of a harmonious world with lasting peace and common prosperity.

Jia delivered a speech entitled Sticking to Peaceful Development and Achieving Win-win Cooperation at the opening ceremony. He noted that the world today is in the era of great development, great change and great readjustment. World multi-polarization and economic globalization continue to develop, the international system faces major changes and it has become an irresistible trend of the times to build a more fair and reasonable international political and economic order. Win-win cooperation is a correct choice for the international community in order to seize opportunities, tackle challenges and realize progress. He said that China is the largest developing country in the world. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China 60 years ago, especially since the reform and opening up more than 30 years ago, China has scored world-acclaimed achievements of development and gradually built a development road suitable to its national conditions. Peace is the basic precondition for China's development, opening up injects great vigor into China's development, cooperation is a distinct characteristic of China's development, win-win outcome is the natural result of China's development and sustainable development is the strong guarantee for China's development. We will resolutely follow the socialist development road with Chinese characteristics and work hard to build china into a socialist modern country with prosperity, democracy, civilization and harmony. He raised three proposals on promoting world peace and development: first, make joint efforts to comprehensively boost world economic recovery; second, work hard to improve the governance structure of world economy; third, promote balanced development of the world. He indicated that China will unswervingly follow the road of peaceful development and continue to cooperate with all other countries to promote strong, sustained and balanced growth of world economy and lasting peace and common prosperity in the world.

A number of distinguished guests, including former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, former European Commission President Romano Prodi, former Australian Prime Minister John Howard, former Russian Prime Minister Evgeni Primakov, former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, also addressed the opening ceremony.

Wang Gang, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and president of the organizing committee of the conference chaired the opening ceremony. Qian Yunlu and Wan Gang, vice chairmen of the CPPCC National Committee and vice presidents of the organizing committee of the conference as well as Du Qinglin, Abulahat Abdurixit, Zhang Rongming, Sun Jiazheng, Lin Wenyi, Li Wuwei and Chen Zongxing who are vice chairmen of the CPPCC National Committee attended the opening ceremony.

More than 800 people, including dignitaries from 28 countries and regions and domestic and foreign experts and scholars participated in the opening ceremony.
