Q: What are the main
topics of the summit meeting to be held by China, Japan and
the ROK in Cambodia on 4 November ? Will the question of
DPRK developing nuclear weapons be
covered?
A: Leaders of China, Japan
and the ROK will hold the meeting during the 10+3 and
exchange views mainly on how to promote economic cooperation
and trade and work with ASEAN within the 10+3
framework to promote economic development in East Asia.
The three countries will also exchange views on
other questions of common concern and
interest.
Q: It is reported that the
29 October big fire in the World Trade Center in Ho Chi Minh
City has claimed 60 lives. What is the comment
from the Chinese side?
A: As a
friendly neighbour of Viet Nam, we express deep sympathy to
the grave casualties and property losses causing by the big
fire in Ho Chi Minh City and condolences to families of the
victims. The Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi
Minh has been following closely through all means to learn
relevant developments. Up till now, there is no
news that Chinese citizens, including Hong Kong and Macao
residents and Taiwan compatriots have been wounded or died.
It, together with the Chinese embassy in Viet Nam,
will continue to follow it, learn more about the Chinese
citizens there and provide all necessary
assistance.
Q: When do you think the
UN Security Council will reach consensus on the Iraqi weapon
inspection question?
A: At present,
the UN Security Council is holding intensive consultations
on the Iraqi question. The Chinese side has taken note of
the certain revisions to the draft on Iraqi question so as
to accommodate certain concerns of China, Russia, France and
other members of the UN Security Council. The Chinese side
will continue to take part in the consultations with other
member countries in a constructive attitude, and promote
consensus reaching in the Security Council consultation so
as to enable the UN weapon inspectors to return to Iraq at
an early date and to provide ground for the Security
Council’s judgment.
Q: The talks
between Japan and DPRK on the normalization of relations
have ended with no progress. What is the comment from the
Chinese side? What is your position on the demands made by
DPRK to the Japanese side during the
talks?
A: We have taken note that no
progress has been made during talks between Japan and DPRK
on the establishment of relations. Considerable differences
have remained on some questions. The Chinese side
hopes that both sides can continue their negotiations,
narrow differences so as to continue to improve relations
between them and realize the normalization of bilateral
ties.
